If we were Scandinavian, we would be in hygge, after leaving gökotta and on the way to achieving a complete kos. All this without leaving Casa Secuoya.

We often wonder (and are asked) about the real secret of this house. For that invisible touch that manages to generate a unique feeling of well-being. Because of the formula that manages to amalgamate the combination of outdoors, natural materials, light, warmth and harmony.

The Nordic conception of architecture, nature and interior design offers some keys. Reading about the subject, we discovered that northern European societies have coined expressions and words that refer to balance, joy and the meaning of a full life. They are terms without literal translation but with an overwhelming evocation. There they go:

Hygge

If we ask a Dane what the famous hygge, will answer something like "sitting in front of the fireplace on a cold night, wearing a soft wool sweater while you drink a mulled wine and pet your dog lying next to it."

It is pronounced “hu-ga” and is often translated as “the cozy.” But hygge It is much more than feeling good in a comfortable space. It is an attitude towards life that explains why Denmark is always on the podium of happiest countries according to the UN ranking.

Pyt

If he hygge does not arrive, hit the pyt. For the Danes, say pyt It is equivalent to saying that nothing happens, that we continue forward because a stone in the road cannot stop us. An invitation to take life with philosophy.

Sisu

We jump to the other shore of the Baltic to discover a term that in Finland refers to energy, perseverance and the strength that comes from within and pushes us to overcome any challenge that is put in front of us. Have sisu It is having courage and facing any possible difficulty in pursuit of a goal. And from here, we are clear: a lot sisu for all!

Friluftsliv and gökotta

Between forests, mountains, lakes and fjords, if there is something that abounds in Scandinavia, it is natural landscapes. So it is not surprising that a good part of the happiness of its people is linked to enjoying the outdoors and the further away from the madding crowd, the better. That's exactly the friluftsliv: spend time in remote and wild places to achieve greater physical and spiritual well-being.

Gökotta is to carry the friluftsliv to the extreme, at least in time terms. It's about getting up very early to go out and listen to the birds sing, meditate and do physical exercise outdoors, whatever the temperature.

Lagom

Neither much nor little, but quite the opposite. For the Swedes, lagom It is finding harmony in the right measure of things. Without shortages, without excesses. What's the point of accumulating? Let's release ballast and leave more room for tranquility, balance and joy.

And so, we come to kos

In just three letters, the word kos It means something as enormous as the happiness that is experienced when we feel safe, comfortable and well accompanied. Physical space is important, but human relationships are even more important: a good time with friends, a walk in the garden chatting with your partner, a family meal in a cozy room... The concept is so strong that it costs us nothing to import it. : how about we feel the kos in Casa Secuoya?

Spaces that give a lot kos:
